Foundation waterproofing/repair Maurice (Oakville)
After moving into an older home, we had noticed water stains and a build-up of efflorescence on our foundation cinder blocks found in the basement crawlspace (at the back of the house). Ignoring the issue, we went ahead and had some landscaping done... Not our brightest move, given that during the heavy rains we had this summer/fall, we noticed that the water staining on the cinder blocks was getting darker (compounding this issue was that we also noticed that on one side of the house the ground was actually above the sill plate i.e. our house has siding and the siding was below grade). As per usual, I came here to see if I could find help. Had 3 quotes; all the quotes provided came from companies that were within the top 15 listed here. City Wide was the ONLY company that showed genuine empathy and an interest to help me solve the problem quickly and efficiently. Casey was the gent who walked me through what would happen, how it would happen and how long. He took the time to explain, diagram and calculate total costs (vs. the other two companies who pretty much showed me their sales mags along with quoting me costs per linear foot). He walked around the house, looked inside the house, and was generally knowledgeable about what to expect. What was truly incredible is that the crew that came out (George was the gent in charge there) hand dug everything, and put it all back together in such a fashion that if I hadn't seen the actually digging taking place, I'd have sworn they hadn't done anything at all. True to their word/contract, these guys go that extra mile - good professionals, great people and the work they accomplished appears to be top notch.

I called City Wide to work on the foundation for my parents' home in Toronto. The house is approx. 100 years old and had leaking and dampness in the basement. Tony and his crew did a very thorough job of digging up around the entire perimeter of the house, applying several layers of waterproofing materials, and filling in holes and gaps in the concrete above the foundation. The workers were punctual and the cost was more than reasonable given the amount of work that was done. The entire job took more than a week, and the driveway was re-asphalted after the ground had time to settle. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY IF YOU WANT THE JOB DONE PROPERLY!

Everything was done within the agreed upon time and they left the place very clean upon completion. Very professional. The only negative comment is that they still have to return to repair the interlocking stone that sunk after the job was completed. We recommend not to pay for the job completely until all final work has been completed. On the whole the job was professionally done.

Highly recommended! Had to fix a leaky basement, but could afford only 70% of the total perimeter of the house. Chris was very helpful in determining the areas that had to be fixed in priority. Not only the team did the work on time, on budget and clean, but I also got more than what I wanted! At the end of the job, the team found a hole in the basement wall due to a legacy oil furnace. The hole was a likely source of water pouring in, but was beyond the perimeter in scope. At my great surprise, the team went above and beyond and fix the issue at no extra cost!

Chris responded and inspected water in our basement the same day of my call and scheduled a team to install a sump pump very quickly thereafter. Upon opening an area behind a wall, the team discovered a hidden pipe so the decision was made to investigate further before proceeding. We appreciated Chris' conservative approach which saved us much disruption to our home and quite a lot of money. Ultimately, our water damage was attributed to a faulty dehumidifier and we did not need to proceed with the job. After we moved into our newly renovated home, we found out we had a HUGE leak in our basement. The leak was causing mold on the entire basement and dry walls. Our contractor hired someone to do the waterproofing during the renovation however we quickly realized we had to call a professional. We found City Wide on the internet. We called about 5 different companies and had City Wide be the only ones that showed up on time (the same day we called). Their quote was a little higher than the other quotes however it was worth every dime. City Wide employees were extremely knowledgeable. They immediately found the issue and started working within 2 days. The work was both internal and external. Workers showed up at 8am and left at 7pm. They were quiet and worked clean. In addition, they had to dig in our basement and replace drywalls. We didn’t even feel we had construction in the house. The basement is dry and we are extremely happy.

I found my basement was wet this summer(we moved in last winter). I called another company to come and estimate, they gave me $3000 quote. Then we called city wide group, Stephen came and checked the basement and outside wall very carefully, with his years experience and intuition, he kneeled down beside the hydro pipe in the wall and pull all the dirt and debris away, and found a hole three finger size, that's the place the water goes into basement. Stephen then told me how to fix it, what I should buy and where to buy it, so I can fix it by myself. After I fix it and I called Stephen again to see if he can come to have another check. I recently hired City Wide in May this year to waterproof the west wall of our house and also install a weeping tile system. After three estimates we weighed the options regarding price and procedures and decided to go with City Wide. The job quote included the removal and re-install of 140sq.ft. of pavers in between the houses which the other two companies would not include in their quote, and one was $ 6,000 more. City Wide was also able to dig down by hand and repair my wall without disrupting the neighbours side which was only three feet away! The other two quotes used machinery and would not consider doing the job unless both walls were exposed and fixed, and I would be responsible for the extra cost! Chris from City Wide was on time, very prompt with his quote, after ten minutes I knew exactly what it would cost us. The crew was very informative and diligent in their work habit. They talked to the neighbours informing them about the impending work. The stone walkway was put back as it was, cleaned, and you would never know anyone had been there. We were overwhelmed by the pride this company has in delivering a superior quality product , their integrity and exceptional customer service. I had many questions, mainly regarding foundation safety/protection which Chris always answered honestly and intelligently and in terms I was able to understand. Citywide did an excellent job. They dug up and waterproofed the full exterior perimeter of our basement. Their quote was on par with a few of the others we had, but none of the others included patching the strip cut out of the driveway or patio or any of the other finish work. The job required a significant amount of bench footing which was done at the agreed upon price per foot. There were a few other add-ons to the job that they did at a very reasonable cost. Two small things to note. We had asked the crew foreman to make sure we saw each section prior to filling it back in. This worked fine for the first half of the job but was somehow forgotten for the second half. The other thing was they left some materials behind. True to his word Harry had someone come by to pick most of it up, but they still left some items which I ultimately disposed of myself. Neither of these things are enough to knock off a full star. An excellent job all around and we're very happy with it. I would recommend them to others.

From beginning to end, Chris and his hard-working crew made us feel like we were getting our money's worth. Underpinning is a huge undertaking and a little nerve-wracking, but Chris was extremely clear in his explanations and made himself available by phone or email whenever we had questions or required clarification. CityWide took care of the engineers and permits for the job. Additionally, the crew were extremely hardworking and efficient. The workers had to hand dig the foundation since machines wouldn't fit through any of the openings to the basement - layers of concrete, dirt, mud and clay were all hand dug. They cleaned up the job site at the end of every day (even the neighbours commented on how respectful they were!). There were a few very minor issues that required some trades coming back to fix some things after the fact (toilet drain and minor driveway damage) and Chris took care of these things immediately and responded to my concerns in a timely manner. These are honest and good people. With underpinning, you don't want to take any chances on a company that doesn't know the ins and outs of engineering, permits and structural stability. CityWide knows what they're doing, and that's you're paying for (that and exceptional customer service and attention to detail). We've already recommended them to neighbours who are looking to do similar work on their homes.

They explained to us up front that the weeping tile they hook the window drain to might be plugged, and they told us the potential costs. We wish we never had to do this job but sadly the gorgeous home we bought had no waterproofing and was leaking. On the first day that City Wide's crew came to work, they realized that there was a problem in our house that we didn't realize - namely, we had no footings and that the studs that were wet were actually load-bearing walls. It's a long story but if City Wide's crew were not more experienced, they would have gone ahead with the first step (cutting the wet studs) and this could have caused our house to collapse! We are sooo glad we hired a reputable company that has experience. Anyway we had our engineer check out what City Wide was saying and it was 100% true. Chris was so patient with us through this whole process as it took us a long time to decide how to proceed. Eventually when we were ready he gave us a great price, negotiated with us a bit, and we went ahead. The crew was so professional. Every night when they went the site looked as if my mother came and cleaned it. It was amazing. I have already recommended City Wide and would do so again in a heartbeat.

They faced several complexities with the job, such as removing out existing concrete pad, interlocking stones, a/c unit and pool pump, filter and heater. The boys were very professional in terms of completing each step to perfection and restoring all disturbed areas. All shrubs were carefully dug up and replanted, a concrete walkway that had to be busted up was replaced better than the original and the portion of the driveway that had to be taken up was laid smoother than the part of the driveway that hadn't been disturbed. Our basement started off at 6 ft 2 inches with bad drains and damp spots. Chris oversaw our project and was always professional, helpful, knowledgeable, and courteous. His crew, led by Jakob, did an absolutely exceptional job of underpinning the entire basement, digging out a crawl space, replacing all beams and support posts, waterproofing, and replacing the drains. Our new height is now a beautiful 8 ft 2 inches and worth every penny (and believe me, it cost us a few :) ). I have recently hired City Wide to provide waterprofing service to my North York home. My decision to hire Harry and his crew is based on a comprehensive review of reputable waterproofing companies and ratings from consumer agencies such as Consumers Choice Award and Homestars. After a thorough examination of the completed work, I understand why City Wide was the receipient of Consumers Choice Award year after year. The job was really well done with attention to details. For example, the area was carefully regraded to ensure proper drainage, shrubs were trimmed and replanted, gates were reinstalled and carefully realigned to ensure proper operations, and the entire area was thoroughly cleaned up with no debris left behind. Harry and his crew have also installed additional waterproofing coverage to ensure the leakage problem is adequately addressed and installed a new window well to safegauard against water leakage through the window. All these additional jobs were done without extra cost to the customer. City Wide completed an extensive waterproofing project on my house. The team worked tirelessly for 9 days, arriving everyday att 7:30 am and working til after 5pm. There was a lot of landscaping/interlock which had to be removed and replaced which was done to perfection. The work team also did a coulple of repairs which were not in the contract. The injection did not work as they said. CWG did an excellent job to waterproof our 90+ year old house with a stone foundation. The crew was extremely diligent, friendly, and they cleaned up the site at the end of each day and left it the same as before when the job was done. Harry personally came to the site several times during the project and for the final inspection. Frank, the crew leader, was great at directing his team which worked so efficiently and effectively that I was amazed at how organized and disciplined they were without tripping over each other. Harry was very reachable and answered all of my telephone calls and questions. Our neighbor had a concern about the work being done at our house and Harry quickly came over to meet with them and explain how the job was being performed. Frank and his Polish crew was fantastic and by the end of the project, I was speaking a bit of Polish that I learned from them! We have a crack in the foundation wall which leaks whenever there is a heavy rain. My concern with the waterproofing job was that the work on the side of the house meant taking out the interlock pavement and stairs, taing apart my flower bed and putting it back again after work is done. Chris and I discussed the options and set up the date for the work. He estimated the work would be done in three days. The crew actually finished the work in two days, Chris sent out additional crew members to ensure they finish the work as promissed, by Saturday. I specifically asked for this so I can be at home to keep an eye on the site. Jacob, the crew leader explained to me all the steps and called me out to see the progress. I was very happy with the work, profesional, clean and they have done all I asked for. After less than 36 hours, my basement wall was sealed (22 ft long), weeping tile replaced, interlock pavement and flower bed in place, the site was cleaned up and does not even show that we dug the whole thing up 3 ft below the surface. Highly recommend these guys!

I purchases a 'newer' house in Ajax approx. 3 months ago. Since we purchased the house, we knew there was a leaking foundation crack that had to be dealt with. We had City Wide come out to give us an estimate before we moved in. We waited a while to have the leak fixed, and just recently had them out to do the repair. I am happy I went with City Wide, as they met, and went beyond my expectations. They were within the range of quotes I received, but felt most comfortable with them.

City Wide came in on time and on budget. They are quick to respond to any concerns and extremely upfront and honest. They're price was somewhere in the middle of all the quotes we received, but i'd sooner spend a little bit more and know all will be taken care of. I'm sure the other guys would have surprised me with additional costs. Don't cheap out when it comes to your foundations! The customer service and quality of work was extremely professional. We actually had neighbors thanking us for hiring such a pro crew who respected their properties during the 6 week project. Definitely recommend.

City Wide Group Inc. did an exceptional job of our waterproofing project. After having water leak into our basement during heavy rains, we received several estimates and chose City Wide to complete the work based on their thorough approach. The job started in a very timely manner after we received the quote and was also completed sooner than we expected. Having witnessed the quality of the workmanship and attention to detail over the course of the job, we can absolutely testify to the fact that the work was done well and all problems were rectified. Waterproofing the perimeter of a home requires a considerable amount of disruption to the outside landscaping elements close to the house and City Wide group left the work site in impeccable condition throughout the course of the job. In the end, everything was put back together to look the same, if not better, than it had originally. Since completion of the project, we have had record rainfall this Spring but we have not experienced any further issues with water in our basement. We are confident that our water problems have been rectified and City Wide's lifetime fully transferable warranty only adds to our level of confidence. Dealing with Chris and his team was a very pleasant experience from start to finish and they impressed us with their professionalism and expertise. We would not hesitate to recommend their services to any one in need of an expert waterproofing job.

After recent rains, we had a wet corner of our basement. Steve came promptly and was very helpful assessing the problem and explaining what needed to be done. Very professional in his dealings. Once we agreed to use City Wide, Steve and the crew took out the damaged carpets, cut out moldy drywall and cleaned up right away. The next couple of days were spent hand digging around the back and sides of the house down to the weeping tiles and waterproofing from the outside. They went the extra yard to make a french drain 10 feet away from the house to take the downspout well away from the house. The worksite was kept clean at all times. The only issue was they used an old plastic pipe I had to take the water out to the french drain. When I expressed my concerns, Steve and the crew came back and replaced it with a proper 4"PVC pipe. The area was reseeded and grass is starting to grow back. Steve says they will come back to check the worksite in a few months. While making the repairs, we asked Steve to do a little work in the basement removing some cabinets and drywalling. The work was done well and his guys were great about moving some heavy items around the house while they were here. Overall, very good service.

Their work seems competant, but customer service was poor. They were slow providing quotes, they failed to do work they verbally agreed to (not on the contract), and they lost a house key I gave them to use while the work was underway. Considering their quote was higher than most, I feel I got poor service for the money spent. Next time I will likely look elsewhere.

We had some water seeping into our basement during a snow melt. Harry from City Wide came over and gave us an estimate to correct the issue. My husband and I felt confident with him and his company, so we had them come in the following week. Joe and his crew showed up on time, and did a very clean job in the cold weather. They put back our interlocking stones, and left our property just as it was prior to starting. Overall I give them a 10/10 and do not have a single complaint.

Internal Waterproofing We recently hired The City Wide Group for interior waterproofing of most of our basement. Their quote was competitive with others, but they seemed to explain things better. Chris explained exactly what they were going to do so we could understand. Jacob, Mark, Andrew, Wesley and Calvin started right when expected and worked very hard all day on one of the hottest, most humid days this summer. They were courteous, friendly and answered all our questions throughout the process. They also cleaned up everything when they were finished. They didn’t even mind me taking pictures periodically for our references. They also returned a few days later to spray the walls with an anti-fungal, anti-bacterial cleanser to ensure no future problems with any mold or effervescence. Very thorough!!
We highly recommend this company for their waterproofing and we have also hired them to rebuild our basement back to a liveable state after the waterproofing.

Water proofing Waterproofing is open heart surgery for the house. For something serious as this, one has to do their due diligence. Let's face it, I did not know anything about waterproofing but I am good at reading people and I liked the fact it was a family business, who take pride in their work. Dean, Chris and their cousins were just absolutely great. They were clean, courteous, on time and very competitive. What more can you ask for? Don't take my word for it, interview them for yourself. waterproofing We interviewed a lot of other waterproofing contractors (eight, actually) before meeting with Chris. He explained the process they employed and was frank regarding our options. He was professional in disclosing all of the work that was to be done and prompt in notifying us as to when his crew would be available. His price was competitive with other quotes we received, and we felt that the amount asked was in keeping with the work to be performed. We gained the impression that City Wide would be responsive and would honor its time lines.
City Wide's crew was professional, courteous, and neat. They arrived on time, explained the work as it progressed and worked quickly to complete the job. Their thoroughness extended to re-seeding the grass along the patch of lawn along the front of the house and bagging and hauling away excess earth. They also managed to work around our brand new retaining wall without needing to dismantle or cut into it (steps that other waterproofing contractors insisted would be unavoidable).
Great work, City Wide! Thanks for taking the headache out of waterproofing!

Waterproofing I recently contacted Harry for advice to deal with another waterproofing contractor we had engaged whose work quickly became a source of enormous stress & concern for us. Harry & his son Chris were very generous with their time, offering immensely practical & detailed advice on how to mitigate the damage that was being done by this work which had already started & could not be fully stopped without resulting in nasty litigation. Life lesson learned from this experience: it pays to spend the extra bit of money front end to get peace of mind on work as significant as waterproofing. City-Wide offers that peace of mind. Waterproofing Basement This company is really amazing! Right from my initial phone call to receiving my warranty certificate, everything was executed to a "T"!
The secretary was very nice and took down my information. Chris called me when she said he would. Chris arrived on time for our initial meeting, he definitely knows the business inside and out, I was quite impressed. After receiving a couple more quotes, CityWide was right in the middle as far as pricing goes. I decided to go with them based on their reputation in the business and more thorough process of foundation waterproofing.
The crew arrived to conduct the work on the date (and time) Chris had told me. Right from the begging of the job, the crew took time and care in preparing for the manual excavation. I could tell they take a great deal of pride in their work. The did an excellent clean up and I couldn't be happier!

Weeping Tile Replacement I used the City Wide Group to resolve basement water issues that I had with a house that I purchased a year ago. The house is 60 years old and had an outdated weeping tile system. I was able to meet with Harry, who outlined all steps involved, and estimate for the time that they work would take and the cost. They were able to start 1 week later. After the first day that the work was started, I arrived home to witness a very clean, and minimally disrupted area where the work was being done that included tarped areas. The work was completed within 2 and 1/2 days, and when done, I was impressed with the fact that I hardly could tell that a major excavation had been completed around my house. They even hosed down any dirt in the front area and driveway. There was minimal disruption to the neighbour’s property since the space in between the 2 houses did not leave a lot of room to work and they were able to preserve the neighbours trees. I was happy with the work that was done, the professionalism and hard work of all their workers, and the ease of the whole process. I would recommend this company to anyone that needs this type of work completed.

Underpinning the house for a habitable basement. Best decision made. This is a huge undertaking. Underpinning is a type of job not to be given to anyone. Choose very carefully! City Wide was prompt, gave a timely quote, started when promised, presented costs for additional work I requested during the job. There were no surprises in the end. The crew that worked with us treated our family and home with utmost respect, got the job done right and well beyond expectations. Issues come up during a job of this magnitude, City Wide are great problem solvers, they are all gentlemen and I would recommend them to you. City Wide is as professional as they come. They have the proper underpinning insurance and carry all the proper credentials. Pricing is a tad more but you get what you pay for. I also requested additional work outside of the contract along the way. Radiant floor heating, furnace installation and some needed plumbing. Well tackled. Our family thought moving was our only option for more space, we did not want to build an addition because we love our garden. MLS Listing fees and percentages coupled with the land transfer tax would add up to more than this job cost. It made sense to have this project completed. Well worth the investment! Thanks Chris and Harry and all the gents on the crew. If you think I am gushing... I am... I just know too many people with absolute horror stories of underpinning gone wrong. Good luck!

Basement lowering I am a General Contractor myself, so am quite critical of others in the industry. Prior to engaging City Wide I interviewed 2 other small residential contractors. Both provided quotes that were completely unreasonable, and totally unnegotiable. Then I met Harry. He knows his stuff, he is quick, efficient, client-satisfaction centric, and his crew is exceptionally respectful of the fact that they are working in a house that people are living in. The job was cleaned every day, and the site was very safe.
Through the process there were a couple of changes. Harry and I negotiated completely reasonable and amicable terms on the changes and the job was completed in record time. Start to finish - 9 days.
Harry is a contractor's contractor and I would recommend his company to anyone. Don't take the chance on the guy with no insurance and a promise of doing the work for 10K. You will be sorely disappointed.....not to mention, your house may fall down.

Waterproof basement City wide was a very competitive quote amongst all of the businesses we contacted, and the job was done efficiently and with great speed.
The clean up was also excellent and the crew was friendly and normal.
Communication issues were a little bit wonky, but after several efforts we got things done. Recommended for waterproofing.

Waterproofing Wet Basement I had originally from my sister, who hired them to lower her basement. I decided to contact them to estimate my waterproofing problem. They showed up on time, and presented me with a reasonable quote so I gave them the go ahead.
They were booking approx. 2 weeks out, and showed up on the date outlined in the contract and commenced work the same morning. I cannot say one single bad thing about the company or the work they had completed. They tarped over everything, kept me informed as to what they were doing, and stored their tools neatly every night. At the end of the job they did an excellent clean up and I have not had any water in my basement since.

Foundation waterproofing I was experiencing a very leaky basement in my 80 year old home. Chris from CityWide Group arranged to come over and assess the situation. He was very helpful in explaining what may be causing the leak and what action was necessary to correct it. The estimate was within range of a couple other quotes I had gathered, so I have him the green light to start.
The crew arrived a week later, on time, as promised. Let me tell you, I have NEVER seen men work so hard and restless like the crew they had sent over. They were so clean, that they would tarp over everything at the end of each day and neatly store their tools in the back yard. Once the job was complete, my interlocking driveway looked better then before they had started. My basement has not leaked since and it has been over a month since completion.
